Una delle migliori fonti di informazioni sugli Yezidi
è il libro di W.B. Seabrook, Adventures in Arabia,
in quanto l'Autore, grazie ad un fortunato
concorso di circostanze, poté raggiungere la
stessa città santa degli Yezidi e perfino visitarne
il tempio. Egli vide effettivamente una di quelle
torri [...] ed ebbe confermato che in essa si
riuniviano Yezidi che si occupavano di magia:
vide la serpe nera scolpita in rilievo all'entrata
di templi che si continuavano all'interno della
montagna; visitò alcune parti di tali templi,
ma non altre meno accessibili e sotterranee che,
nel caso, potevano esser quelle ove si
celebravano gli accennati riti sinistri.
Anche la faccenda delle vergini fu confermata:
prima di essere abilitata e di poter essere
accettata come sposa da uno Yezida, ogni vergine
dovrebbe mettersi a disposizione dei capi supremi
del tempio per essere fatta donna subendo
azioni varie di magia sessuale. Seabrook anzi
portò con sé in America come ricordo - unico,
forse, fra gli Occidentali - uno degli strani e
barbarici corsetti di argento che le ragazze
yezidi debbono ritualmente portare quando si
recano nel tempio di Satana, affinché il
rappresentante del Principe di questo mondo
le inizi all'esperienza del sesso.
